Lia L. Shoshann
Between indie folk, blues and a pinch of punk, they tell stories of restlessness, closeness and the search for a place that feel like home.
Fusion-Pop/ Folk, restless
Lia L. Shoshann is a child of the 90s, growing up with the image that singer-songwriters are guys with guitars sitting by a campfire. Thanks to Dota Kehr and KT Tunstall, however, Lia quickly realized that singer-songwriters don't necessarily need to be guys or sit around campfires. Lia L. Shoshann now draws inspiration from strong women*, honest anger, the twilight of travel days, and the chaos of interpersonal relationships.
Lia's second album, Josefin Sans, was released on November 12th, 2025, and one thing is clear: if someone is sitting somewhere playing love songs on the guitar, it's Lia L. Shoshann, without guys, with a campfire in their heart.
Stories always form the basis for Lia L. Shoshann's music. They are written about themes such as restless travel and the hope of arriving. Lia's lyrics often use metaphorical imagery, though the feeling behind them is always tangible and it is hard not to feel addressed very directly.
But what do these stories sound like? Lia L. Shoshann's voice brings warm, clear indie folk to the music. Together with the lyrics, it manifests another common thread that runs through the music. Everything else – rhythm, tempo, mood – vagabonds and is shaped by Lia's restlessness. One can hear musical influences from folk, reggae, blues...and punk? Yes, Lia's music has a touch of punk rebellion that Lia always carries in their heart. Overall, this reluctance to be clearly categorized into one genre is reminiscent of acts such as Bukahara or Il Civetto, for whose opening act Lia L. Shoshann would be very well suited.
Lia's solo career now includes many live performances and a debut album. The latter was released in 2019 by TimeZone Records. Lia L. Shoshann is primarily at home on the stages of North Rhine-Westphalia, but Lia's journey also includes stages throughout Germany, the USA, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Highlights have certainly included concerts at the VielSicht Festival in Münster and the Bochum Musiksommer as well as a show at Zakk, Düsseldorf. Lia L. Shoshann is currently nominated for the “Young Talent” award at the Rock & Chanson Festival “Cologne - Breslau - Paris” 2025.
